Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSS/NCA), located in Washington, DC, has been operating for over a century offering hope and a helping hand where it is needed most, regardless of race, faith, or gender. Collaborating with communities and congregations of all faiths to serve its most vulnerable neighbors, LSS/NCA employs approximately 50 dedicated staff members and currently has annual revenue of approximately $6 million. The organization is well underway in implementing a new Migrant Support Services program to support individuals throughout DC, MD, and VA, and anticipates additional revenue of approximately $3–$4 million.

Reporting to a volunteer Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for providing strategic leadership in both the articulation and achievement of the agency’s mission. A key focus for the new CEO will be development of, in concert with the board, a robust strategic planning process that identifies methods for ensuring the organization’s ongoing commitment to mission and its continued viability in the context of a changing and challenging environment. Also responsible for wise stewardship of the organization’s financial resources, team development, new program development, advocacy and fundraising, the CEO provides assurance of the highest quality of care in all services.

The ideal candidate will provide efficient and effective leadership that guides successful operational results, ethical integrity and financial soundness, efficacy and efficiency of the entire organization. The finalist candidate must possess outstanding interpersonal skills, as well as be a person of Christian faith with demonstrated commitment to the Christian mission of LSS/NCA. (S)he will serve as the primary representative of the organization and liaison with all faith-based, non-profit, community, state, local and federal government entities/partnerships and/or stakeholders. An additional area of focus includes developing and mentoring a high performing, collaborative team. (S)he will further build a competitively superior organization by attracting, developing, and retaining talent to ensure that people with the right skills and motivations are in the right place at the right time to meet business needs and mission fulfillment. Master’s degree is required; an advanced degree in social work or related field or equivalent experience is desirable.
