UMA Board of Directors, Chair
"When you get to the end of all the light you know and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: either you will be given something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly."

- Edward Teller

For those of you who think this quote is one of those "whoo whoo" notions that may look nice hanging on a wall, but isn't practical in the rough and tumble real world... you might be interested to know that the author, Edward Teller, was a theoretical physicist who made numerous contributions to nuclear and molecular physics, and is known as "the father of the hydrogen bomb." Yep, that's right, a hard core by the book science guy acknowledging that sometimes you have to step forward without knowing how things will work out.

Sounds a lot like leadership to me.

Senior Living Organization Receives Reaccreditation with Commendation

Congratulations to Wesley Willows for their Reaccreditation with Commendation.

At its July Meeting, the EAGLE Accreditation Commission approved Wesley Willows' distinguished Accreditation with Commendation. Led by President and CEO William Pratt, the agency has long been committed to EAGLE accreditation. In addition to completing a rigorous self-study and joint EAGLE Reaccreditation with CARF, the agency celebrates many years of excellence in the Northern Illinois Conference. The review team, Susan Sharp, United Methodist Communities and Sharon Anderson, Asbury Springhill Senior Living, were impressed by the resident-led programs such as the Good Samaritan Fund, Community Garden (shown above) and the recycling program.

Welcome New Commissioner
The EAGLE Accreditation Commission welcomes Lori Furr, Director of Risk Management/Safety/Security, at Aldersgate in Charlotte, North Carolina, as our newest Commissioner. Approved by the UMA Board of Directors this summer, Lori began serving her first three-year term at the July Commission meeting. Lori and the leadership from Aldersgate graciously hosted the two-day September EAGLE Commission meeting in Charlotte. Lori additionally completed the Peer Reviewer Training at the Annual Meeting in Fort Myers and will participate in her first review in November. We look forward to the leadership and expertise Lori Furr brings to the Commission.
