UMA Seeks Recognition of EAGLE under Families First Prevention Services Act
UMA and EAGLE-accredited organization The Methodist Home of Children and Youth in Macon, GA submitted written testimonies on August 3rd in advance of the August 7th Congressional deadline, requesting EAGLE be recognized as an accrediting body in the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA). The House Ways and Means Human Resources Subcommittee held a hearing entitled “The Opioid Crisis: Implementation of the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. The link to the actual hearing is located here.
According to the details of the hearing, Jerry Milner, Associate Commissioner, Children’s Bureau mentions briefly about preliminary discussions with these accreditation organizations. Also, he plans to hold three listening sessions around the country in which providers can participate.
Oral testimony was limited to invited guests only and the public was encouraged to submit written statements for consideration by the Committee for inclusion in the printed record of the hearing. Written statements could be submitted for possible inclusion into the record. Director of EAGLE Jill Myers drafted the letters to compel the inclusion of the EAGLE Accreditation as “an independent, not for profit organization specified in the statute as one of the acceptable accreditations” as defined in 472(c)(4)(G)(iv) of the Act. Under the legislation, each state will have to include the EAGLE Accreditation as a choice of possible accrediting bodies for providers.
