New Criminal Background Screening Requirements in Ohio
We all know that social media is one of the easiest ways to learn more about your summa cum laude applicant or model employee. Ohio has recently taken this “Googling” phenomenon a step further and mandated online background checks in some patient care employment arenas. The law requires certain employers regulated by the departments of Aging, Developmental Disabilities, Health, and Job and Family Services to search an applicant in six online databases before extending an offer of employment that involves patient care. The law also standardizes a list of disqualifying offenses for each agency – eliminating prior loopholes where certain offenders could work under one agency, but not another.
