UMA Announces National Convention Keynote Speaker
LeAnn Thieman is a nationally acclaimed speaker, author, and nurse who was “accidentally” caught up in the Vietnam Orphan Airlift in 1975. Her book, This Must Be My Brother, details her daring adventure of helping to rescue 300 babies as Saigon was falling to the Communists. An ordinary person, she struggled through extraordinary circumstances and found the courage to succeed.
Don’t miss her opening presentation, Light A Single Candle, at 6:00 PM on Monday, March 12! Recounting her dramatic experiences from the Airlift, LeAnn shares life-changing lessons for coping in our “war zones” today. This poignant, yet humorous, presentation inspires audiences to balance their lives, truly live their priorities, and make a difference in the world.
A sign above a pediatric burn unit in Vietnam read, “It is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.” LeAnn inspires and honors audiences for lighting their candles of caring. She has been featured in Newsweek Magazine’s Voices of the Century issue, on FOX-TV, BBC, NPR, PBS, PAX-TV’s It’s A Miracle, and countless radio and TV programs.
After her story was featured in Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul, LeAnn became one of Chicken Soup’s most prolific writers, having now coauthored twelve books in the series, including her just released, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Answered Prayers.
LeAnn is one of only ten-percent of speakers worldwide to have earned the Certified Speaking Professional designation. In August, 2008 she was inducted into the Speaker Hall of Fame.
