UMA Announces Plans to Pursue a Full Re-brand of its Name and Logo

The United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries (UMA) plans to pursue a full rebrand of its name and logo by 2024. UMA Board of Directors approved this initiative at its July 26th meeting following the extensive work and report of the Brand Name Committee.

Just as many UMA members are evaluating the name of their organization, UMA has been committed to ensuring that its name continues to reflect its membership and mission for the future. Since 2020, “assessing, developing and positioning our association brand faith identity” has been a key pillar of our strategic plan.

Last fall, the UMA Board charged the Brand Name Committee with evaluating the current association name, which is the United Methodist Association of Health and Welfare Ministries and familiarly known as UMA. Chaired by former UMA Board member and UMFS CEO Nancy Toscano and comprised of a dozen members, the Committee’s work included three phases: discovery, evaluation and formulating recommendations. As part of that work, they surveyed UMA leaders on our current name. After careful discernment over the course of eight months, the Committee unanimously recommended a full rebranding of the association name and logo.

The UMA Board has expressed its intent to explore new names that continue to position UMA as a faith-based association serving ministries that share core Christian values and honor the Methodist heritage of serving persons of all faiths. With this journey, we see an opportunity to create a brand name that best reflects our membership and mission. The association continues to serve as a catalyst for learning and sharing best practices among nonprofit, faith-based organizations. It will continue to honor the rich heritage of the Methodist individuals, groups and churches across the nation who established critical caring ministries to serve older adults, persons with disabilities, and children, youth and families.

Our mission and focus remain the same: “To promote, inspire, recognize and empower excellence in human service ministries.” Click here to see a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) related to plans to rebrand.
