Wesbury’s Vernon Square Has Taken Shape
When Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community purchased the former Days Inn of Meadville, PA, the vision was to create a moderate-income living option with amenities that will appeal to the region’s active adult population aged 55 and older. It is foremost in Wesbury’s mission to serve the needs of the region. For years, Wesbury sought a solution to offer moderate-income housing options for those that do not qualify for subsidized housing and cannot afford an entry fee model. Vernon Square Apartments is that solution and is now Northwest Pennsylvania’s newest one and two-bedroom rental-only apartment complex owned and operated by Wesbury.
The once dated old hotel is almost unrecognizable as the fresh colors, new roofline, and beautiful stone siding now dress the structure transforming it into an inviting and modern residential structure. While COVID shutdowns and supply delays affected progress, the construction team made a vigorous comeback, and the first phase is now in its finishing stage and consists of the lobby area, the pool, fitness center, locker rooms, and 15 apartments that are taking applications for move-in. From here, Wesbury will move into phases two and three of the project, which is expected to develop upwards of 50 total units when completed.
Apartments are furnished with all appliances, including a washer and dryer, and a full kitchen with an electric stove, dishwasher, refrigerator, garbage disposal, and microwave. Other amenities to Vernon Square Apartments include a full bath with walk-in shower, units with balcony or patio, welcoming common areas for socialization, and the two-story building is equipped with elevators. Pets are permitted, and there are landscaped outdoor areas for walking. There is ample parking, but when tenants don’t feel like driving, Vernon Square boasts the added convenience of an on-site Crawford Area Transportation Authority (CATA) bus stop.
“We are so excited to be offering a moderate-income senior housing option to Crawford County,” says Brian Nageotte, Wesbury President and CEO. “Vernon Square will have the quality people expect coming from Wesbury’s 100 years of providing senior living options in the region.”
