Is Caminos Nacional Right for Your Agency?

Board of Child Care will host a brief online educational session to introduce UMA member agencies to the population served by the Office of Refugee Resettlement Unaccompanied Children Shelter Program and introduce the concept of a Caminos Nacional model of care providers. The session will take place on Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 11:00am - 2:00pm EDT.

UMRC and Porter Hills Announce Affiliation
United Methodist Retirement Communities, Inc. (UMRC) and Porter Hills Presbyterian Village, Inc. (PH) have entered an agreement, to come together under shared governance and leadership. "By coming together as we have, our organizations create tremendous opportunities for the people we serve," said John Nixon III, Chair of the UMRC governing board. For more, click here.
The Methodist Home Meets Health and Human Services Administrator

Health and Human Services Acting Administrator on Children, Youth and Families, Dr. Jerry Milner, met with mission minded CEOs including, Alison Evans, CEO of The Methodist Home (Macon, GA) to discuss the Families First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) in February.
During the visit, Ms. Evans shared information about EAGLE accreditation with Dr. Milner and his team. She encouraged him to be open to requests from state child welfare heads who might offer EAGLE as an option for national accreditation under FFPSA.

EAGLE Announces New Commissioners
We welcome David Glenn, Vice President of Human Resources at United Methodist Communities, and Doug Marshall, President and CEO of Presbyterian Children's Home, as our two newest Commissioners. Approved by the UMA Board of Directors this fall, they began serving their first three-year term at the January Commission meeting. To learn more about these commissioners, click here.

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month
Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) contribute to about 30% of all injury deaths in the United States. Every day, 153 people in the United States die from injuries that include TBI. Effects of TBI can include impaired thinking or memory, movement, sensation (e.g., vision or hearing), or emotional functioning (e.g., personality changes, depression). Learn how to recognize, respond to, and reduce the risk of TBI. Get the facts here.
LeadingAge Announces Plans to Affiliate
LeadingAge announced its intent to affiliate with the Visiting Nurse Association of America and ElevatingHOME to work towards increasing its impact and influence across the full continuum of services. ElevatingHOME (EH) and its subsidiary, Visiting Nurse Association of America (VNAA), are member-led organizations working to expand the definition of and conversation around home-based care, supporting providers of home health and hospice services.

Persons of all faith traditions are invited to come learn, network, and share best ministry practices on April 2, Culpeper, VA to discuss opportunities related to aging congregations and meeting the needs of older adults, inside and outside the walls of faith communities. The UMA Team is growing and changing to meet the evolving needs of our association. In January, Sara Charbonneau's position changed to Communications Coordinator. Sara will continue to serve part-time, providing support to the UMA president and Board of Directors and overseeing UMA communications.
UMA welcomes its newest staff member Ross LiCausi, who joined the UMA team in Frederick, MD in February. Ross will provide part-time administrative support for Director of EAGLE, Jill Myers, and Director of Operations and Member Services, Michelle Chandler. |
