An Interview with Kelly Berger, LCSW-C, Vice President of Special Operations, Board of Child Care

Caminos Nacional
Children in the Caminos Nacional program enjoy recreational activities at a UMA partner community
Board of Child Care
The Board of Child Care is a generous Excel member of UMA. Board of Child Care
The subject of unaccompanied minors has been in the news a great deal over the past few years, but UMA member Board of Child Care (BCC) has been serving this youth for some time. To ensure that this vulnerable population and their families were provided with safe, high quality, supportive care, and services, BCC grew their Caminos shelter program, expanding locations from Maryland, into West Virginia and Pennsylvania and added a foster care component. As BCC considered how they might bring more child welfare providers into this work, it seemed natural to look to their UMA, EAGLE accredited partners. This shared connection allowed BCC to cultivate a strong and resilient relationship with their Caminos Nacional partners - Cunningham Children's Home in Urbana, IL and Florida United Methodist Children's Home in Enterprise, FL... read more.

"EAGLE accreditation is an investment in the quality of care you provide to your clients, but it is also an investment in the people who work with you to achieve that mission. They can take these standards of quality and turn them around to serve the community at large."

Tips and Insights from Expense Consulting

Expense Consulting    In March of last year, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the world as we knew it changed. What comes next? During the pandemic, companies learned to
cope, but in the post-pandemic world, they need to learn to thrive. Below are a few critical questions that your company should be contemplating as the nation embarks on a complete economic restart:
  • What did you learn about your "partners"?
  • What did you learn about your supply chain?
  • What did you learn about your sourcing methodologies?
  • What service level agreements need to be adjusted?
  • What inventory level changes have been made?
  • What opportunities have presented themselves as a result of COVID-19?
  • Are you prepared for revised force majeure clauses?
  • Were there any "ah ha" moments?

Savannah's Oaks
About Savannah: When you think of Savannah's oaks, you can't picture them without the drape of their idyllic Spanish moss. If you didn't know already, Spanish moss is a misnomer; it is not a moss at all. You also may have heard that it is a parasitic plant that kills the trees, but this is also untrue. You might be surprised to learn what Spanish moss is a close cousin to... the pineapple! Both are epiphytes, which are plants that absorb water and nutrients from the air. Who knew?
