Step it up: Goals for the New Year

Happy New Year! At the start of this new year, as I headed to the grocery store, I parked at the far end of the parking lot.
Why? Like many of you, I set my sights higher this year. I adjusted my Fitbit settings and moved my personal and professional goals upward. This trek across the parking lot was my first step.
Dan Buettner, author of Blue Zones, maintains that one way to thrive and live longer is to "Inconvenience yourself." In other words, stretch yourself, move beyond your comfort zone, and don't always take the easy path.

That's the exciting part of a new year. And, in this case, a whole new decade. It's not just a fresh start, but also a chance to set bigger goals and try novel approaches.
We must do the same for our organizations. In 2020, with the pace of change in health and welfare ministries, we must continually move beyond comfortable and secure. Not just to grow our expertise, but to achieve greater results.

Call for Awards Nominations: Deadline January 31
We are accepting nominations for Best Practice, Innovation, and Mission Awards through January 31. Nominations are open to all UMA members in good standing. We invite you to submit for one or more of these awards.
To render your nomination(s) please click here, or by category:
- Mission Award - Presented to an individual, group or organization that has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the mission of its organization, community, field of ministry and/or UMA through inspirational leadership and commitment.
- Innovation Award - Presented to an organization that has demonstrated a creative and unique approach to care and service in ministry.
- Best Practice Award - Presented to organizations doing standard practices in an outstanding way.
Award winners will be selected by the Awards Committee and presented during the Celebration of Excellence at the UMA Annual Meeting in Boulder, CO on Wednesday, April 29.

Plan Ahead: In-person EAGLE Peer Reviewer Training on April 28
If you or your organization is interested in any part of the EAGLE Accreditation process, please join us for the EAGLE Peer Reviewer Training on Tuesday, April 28 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM during the UMA Annual Meeting in Boulder, CO. You may also arrange a personal individual training with Jill Myers (jmyers@ouruma.org or 301-556-1344). This training is beneficial for rising leaders and those identified in your organization to monitor quality systems.
